Manufacturing Technology Team Leader, North America

The Manufacturing Technology Team Leader leads the design, builds and convertion of  automated assembly lines for Electronic Detonator manufacture. Contributes to product development and support of the manufacturing processes for Initiation Systems (IS).

 Operating environment:

  • IS/EBS detonator assembly in fully & semi automated, plus manual assembly processes.
  • Product range : All known and under development IS/EBS products
  • Interaction with and leading of key suppliers for automation..
  • Commercialization and technical team members spread across the globe.
  • Reports directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager NA
  • Interacts with users and suppliers on 4 continents with different cultures & languages.
  • Domiciled in Canada
  • Electronic detonators and blasting systems.
  • Fully and semi automated miniature circuit board  assembly.
  • Knowledge in wire manufacture.

 Accountabilities:

  • Ensure conformance to Orica SHE standards, as embodied in the SHE Charter, within the IS manufacturing technology group in Brownsburg Technology Centre Lead IS Manufacturing Technology Team and projects / initiatives, including related capital projects.
  • Contribute to stewardship of IS manufacturing technology and standards, particularly where these relate to SHE issues.  Lead delivery of the IS Manufacturing Technology projects, including conformance to agreed objectives, budgets, and deadlines, with emphasis on bottom line value
  • Contribute to adequate generation of new ideas for IS Manufacturing  Technology through diverse means such as : customer contact, surveillance of new technologies in other industries, stimulation of novel thinking within the global community
  • Contribute to the  development of the necessary human resources to ensure that present and future IS technology program portfolios can be executed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Contribute input to the NA manufacturing  team on IS manufacturing technology selection, commercial benefit, deployment, and future trends
  • Provide effective and appropriate engineering  support for IS manufacturing on the Brownsburg Site, and provide product development  support to the Orica Technology Team as appropriate

  • RCR, LWCR, incidents., BOS audits, Hazard & Operability Studies, Change control, Personal safety plans.
  • Milestones met., Budget met., Project deliverables met.
  • Annual technology plan, Project reviews with manufacturing and  product managers, Benchmarking against state of the art technologies
  • Customer interaction, Pro-active interest in other industries, Feasibility studies, Brainstorming
  • HPO, Performance appraisals, Personnel development plans
  • Participation with IS manufacturing, commercial and technical teams
  • Pro-active communication with key technical & manufacturing personnel, Product & manufacturing process optimization, ‘On call’ access by team members in North America

Skills:

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical or Automation Engineering.
  • Bilingual (French / English)
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in project engineering in a manufacturing environment .
  • Demonstrated competence in leading projects with internal and external (e.g. machine builder) resources.
  • Proactive communicator with excellent verbal & written communication skills, particularly within the Orica Technology and Manufacturing organizations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a structured approach to process fault finding and pragmatic problem resolution.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision (within and outside area of expertise).
  • Able to lead and manage several projects / initiatives concurrently.
  • Able to take a position with confidence.
  • Calm and logical in time stressed situations.
  • Well-developed documentation skills.
  • Well-developed safety attitude.
  • Sense of urgency.
